Missives from The Line

An easy way to create a character is to change your physicality, and one way to change your physicality is to imagine the different shapes that your body is made up of.

I’m trying to turn this milk into butter, but this milk is also full of death-eaters

Doin’ the Best I Can: Videographer Application for a Travel Position following a chef.

I really have no idea where this ranks in the pantheon of submissions, but I think I’m at least ahead of the person who wore a ski mask and ‘crazied’ up their voice in their audition video.

E-mail in Audition for a product “Wiredrive” … We’ll see.  This aud came from a casting office that liked my take on another project that I didn’t end up booking…so who knows.

Awesomely Compressed Horror Film Audition from Today.  Wow, do I look really nervous and crazy or what and yet still totally grounded or what?!?!

This is a music video I was in a few weeks ago.  Yup.

Cazt Feedback from Motel Blues

Before we get to where I’m a spoiled dispassionate bore- I want to take a moment to remark how horrible getting notes back from Cazt castings can be.*

This project “Motel Blues” is a low budget short film, which means that while the director and producer might be great, they don’t have any life-long hard awe-inspiring film experience.  However, since I really want to work (and actually really really really wanted this part), I can’t help but hang on their every word.

I waited to go in to the audition for 1.5 hours, and spend probably 3 minutes in the room with the only 2 instructions being given:

First:”We’re going to jump right in.  Look at the camera and slate, then look to the reader and begin. Go.”  I read the first scene, didn’t go exactly like I had in my head, but when I looked at the group behind the casting desk, I knew it didn’t go well.  I even offered to re-do it, and they weren’t interested.

Second: For the second scene “He’s quieter”

Look I could go on about this, but mainly my point is that I wanted this part and was willing to work for it.  I took the sides I was given and did what I thought was best.  During the audition I received only one note, and did what I thought would work for that direction.

Then I receive an e-mail for “Free Feedback” (always a horrible sign), and follow the link to find all these judgements.  Now I will spend the next three days hating myself and wanting to throw in the towel all because this one guy thinks I have no range.  FML.

*Cazt is a casting studio in Hollywood that lets actors review their auditions online and allows casting directors to send feedback.  There is also an option for actors to upload new audition material adjusted for the feedback (which I have done 5 times with no response - not even a “video received”)

FEEDBACK FROM CAZT:

Paul D. (CASTING DIRECTOR)

I thought you were good, but you weren’t really likeable. You have to be aware that you come off really privileged. This guy is from a small town and although a really cool rocker, he is still very much a blue collar type of guy which is why he is struggling with the superficiality of fame and all that comes with it.

(con’t)

Again, what is supposed to be brooding is coming off as just aloof, which is what we needed more of in the first take. This is just the wrong character for you.

Bob C. (actor)
I hate myself, and am currently brooding on my life choices.  I might be the wrong character.
